Aberdeen - 1852 the Village of United States



Aberdeen is a city in Harford County in the state of Maryland in the country of Unites States. 13,842 was population of the city at the 2000 census. By Scots emigrating from home, with all Aberdeens outside Scotland, after the original Aberdeen City it was named. Aberdeen is the 20th-largest United States metropolitan area and is part of the Baltimore-Towson Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). To the northeast Havre de Grace, Maryland about 7.7 kilometers, is the city which near to Aberdeen. The city has a total area of 16.5 square kilometers of it all is land.

In 1852 the Village of Aberdeen was a development by Edmund Law Rogers. Due to the close relationship the Rogers family of Baltimore had with their cousin, the Earl of Aberdeen, the name originated from its mother city, Aberdeen, Scotland. Later in 1852 George Hamilton-Gordon, 4th Earl of Aberdeen became the Prime Minister Great Britain. Aberdeen is a cluster of three communities the area which is known now. Under Chapter 136 of the Acts of 1892 Aberdeen was incorporated as a Town in 1892. Aberdeen incorporated as the City which is today, in 1992, the 100th Anniversary year of Aberdeen becoming a Town.


Aberdeen has had a council-manager form of government since incorporation as a City. With terms beginning in November, the Mayor and Council are elected for two-year terms in November. To the U.S. Army's Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), Aberdeen is home. The proving ground came into operation in January 1918 and was established by Act of Congress. Aberdeen Proving Ground is headquarters of the United States Army Test and Evaluation Command (ATEC) and it occupies more than 293 square kilometers. More than 5,000 military personnel and 7,500 civilians work at APG.  Aberdeen is the Gateway to the Chesapeake Bay. Aberdeen is served by Baltimore television stations.
